Human Rights Day Fitness Campaign
Aerobics Clubs from around Thembisile Hani and community members participated in
exercising from 8am to 12:30 through aerobics. Some people tested themselves at the
mobile clinic provided by the Department of Health.

During the campaign, a local radio station (Inakekela Fm) broadcast live at Phola
Mall and Tenants who were able to advertise their shops. Ten families identified
through the Department of Social Development each received food parcels to the
value of R1 000

Youth Day - 10km Fun Run
The 10km Fun Run from KwaMhlanga stadium to Phola Mall was arranged in conjunction
with the Thembisile Local Council, EMS, Dept of Health, Dept of Traffic and Dept of
Social Development. Over 100 people participated and they each received a branded
Phola Mall 10km T-shirt.

Mandela Day
In celebration of the Nelson Mandela Centenary, thirty destitute pensioners were
Identified by DSD through SASSA and transported from their respective areas of
residents to and from the Centre. They received blankets, sanitary gifts and a
special meal. A destitute day-care also identified by DOD and was painted inside
and outside and the yard was cleaned.

Back to School 2019
The Joyous House of Safety benefited from donations for the 2019 Back to School campaign. Destitute kids received uniforms, tracksuits, jerseys, school shoes and stationery.

COVID-19 Education and Awareness Campaign
Phola Mall was proactive in its education and awareness campaign surrounding COVID-19 and the subsequent lockdown. Awareness posters, flyers, social distancing and hand washing stations were all implemented by late March in order to protect the most vulnerable of the Phola community.

COVID-19 Hand Washing Basins
To assist the community of Phola Mall in the fight against COVID-19, the centre made hand washing basins that were placed at the entrance to the Mall. Free soap was also provided so that each person that entered the mall was able to sanitise effectively.

COVID-19 Hand-Sanitising Stands
To assist the community of Phola Mall in the fight against COVID-19, two hand-sanitising stands were made and placed at the entrance of the mall to ensure customers were able to sanitise effectively before entering the centre.

Mandela Day 2020
Phola Mall donated 201 food parcels to various members of the community as part of its Mandela Day contribution. Blankets were also handed out as the winter months can be particularily cruel.
