Staff Mentorship and Upskilling
Mabopane Square sponsored a bursary and mentorship programme to allow the Centre Manager the opportunity to study further.
2022 Assistance to Fire Damaged House
On 2 February 2022, Mr Richard Monare of house number 838 Block U Mabopane, became a victim of a house fire which was caused by an electrical fault. Mr Monare has been a security guard at Mabopane Square since its opening in 2019.
The fire completely destroyed one room and there was smoke damage to the rest of the house.
Mabopane Square assisted with the refurbishment of the house including replacing the window glass and repainting the house.
A new bedroom suite, heater and groceries were also donated.
2021 Community Achiever Awards
The Mabopane Square Community Awards were hosted in December 2021 to recognize community individuals and institutions that symbolize greatness in the area. Local community role models were recognised and rewarded for their ongoing efforts to bring about positive #ChangeforGood in their community.
2021 Community Netball Championship
Mabopane Square hosted its annual Human Rights Day netball tournament and sponsored netball uniforms and equipment for the winning teams in the U15, and senior leagues.
Woman's Day 2020
A total of 142 sanitary pads, 14 packets of panty liners and 15 boxes of tampons were donated to local learners in honour of Woman’s Day.
Winter Warmers Soup Kitchen
Mabopane Square in partnership with Roots Butchery and Shoprite served 500 pensioners with soup as they waited for their grant payout.
COVID-19 Hand Washing Basins
To assist the community of Mabopane Square in the fight against COVID-19, the centre made hand washing basins that were placed at the entrance to the Mall. Free soap was also provided so that each person that entered the mall was able to sanitise effectively.
